Okay, I just have to vent a little to a sympathetic audience here...
WTF is up with the people who hate Inuyasha with at least the same passion that we love it?!
I mean, there are folks who *really* hate our favorite furry-eared character's series, as if it was the incarnation of the Anti-christ or something... :S
Even a good friend of mine (who often enjoys most Japanime w/ me) said that they percieved no difference between Inuyasha and Pokemon...
(at which point I started wretching uncontrollably, seeing absolutely no comparison - to me, that's like saying a paper airplane is the same as a 747 because they both fly through the air).
Is it just that most of the American market isn't used to grasping the subtleties of fine epic storytelling, or that most don't see the difference between "passionate art" and "production art"...?
I recently caught a thread on the Adult Swim tribe where several folks were openly blasting Inuyasha, and exalting the shows which simply afforded "stupid fun"... (not that I mind the "stupid fun" shows, myself, from time to time, but I mean... Damn!)
Has society sunken so low that nobody can stand anything that makes them think or feel anymore or what?
Please, somebody help me understand this phenomena before I start going around popping egos and shredding psyches out of spite... :(

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Tue, August 30, 2005 - 9:17 PMSo I was at this past Otakon, and this dude was wearing a tshirt that says 'Inuyasha is the worst show ever'. So I asked him if he can explain why, or if he even bother to attempt to understand the plot line. He couldn't back up his shirts statement at all, which leaves me to belive is it just fashionable to be a Inuyasha basher.
It would seem that most people who are on the Inuyasha bashing kick have never even seen more then a few episodes of the anime or ever picked up the manga or any of Rumiko Takahashi's works. That or they can't stand not being able to understand something that someone else might comprehend beyond what they can so their natural reaction is negative.
Granted it does take a bit of understanding of the plot line to get past the stereotypical anime elements like flying cats on fire and some of the characters explaining the blantant ovious. Bottom line is who the hell cares, its their loss :P -

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Tue, August 30, 2005 - 10:06 PMAmen Brotha! I LOVE Inuyasha.. I don't feel like I need to explain myself, and I don't care what excuse anyone else has for their stupidity.
It's like John Cena says, "If you don't know by now... We don't want you to know!" -

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Thu, September 1, 2005 - 11:53 AMI didn't used to like InuYasha at first, but it grew on me over time after i gave it a chance
I think most of the people who proclaim to dislike the show but can't offer a good reason why, are the type who need to find something at least moderately popular to criticize while proclaiming their love for something obtuse and obscure because they think it makes them look cooler.
it's the impotent revenge of the psudo-hipster -

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Thu, September 1, 2005 - 11:55 AMIn fact, i'm most willing to bet that the people who hate InuYasha the most are probably the ones who wil go out of their way to promote that anti-christ of comedy called Tom Goes to the Mayor -

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Thu, September 1, 2005 - 9:31 PMI don't see why your making such a big deal on this. I like a bunch of different shows from anime to the Williams Street stuff. Plus, everyone has an opinion no matter big or small, and they have the right to voice it, no matter what it may be. "Although I may not like what you say, I will defend to the death your right to say it." -

Because this is the Inuyasha tribe. And this is where we can complain about all the ingnoramuses that don't like our beloved half demon.
That's why. -

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Fri, September 2, 2005 - 11:08 AMAmen...
I agree with both sentiments...
I do believe they have the complete right to bash Inuyasha - and I would die to defend their right to do so, even though it goes against my own beliefs...
Why am I making a big deal about it...?
Hmm.. lemme see, because I generally decry the exaltation of ignorance and the prevailing decay of the western cultural mindset which denounces anything complex, artistic or otherwise evolutionary...
And yeah, while I'm at it, this *is* the Inuyasha tribe... I voiced it here because I knew I'd find sympathetic ears, rather than start some huge debate in another tribe which would get pretty ugly pretty quick.
It's not like I'm saying, "Hey everybody, let's all log onto the Adult Swim tribe and start some huge debate war over Inuyasha"...
THAT would be making a big deal about... (and it does sound rather tempting, albeit a bit unfair, since from what I've noticed, fans of Inuyasha tend to be "a bit more sophisticated")
But don't worry, although some of them make we want to puke, I still love all of them... :)
(Happy ear-rubs all around! :) -

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Mon, September 5, 2005 - 11:31 AMI never realized there were anti-inuyasha sentiments..
but then again I haven't been involved in an anime "scene" since I was in highschool... when we watched bootleg fan-subbed VHS of Yu yu Hakusho and Ranma, before sailor moon was syndicated in the US, and before Pokemon even existed.
I don't give a fuck what other people think, I like Rumiko Takahashi's work. All of it. I also like Osamu Tezuka's work, but that doesnt' mean I'm going to wear an astroboy tshirt, OR care if someone else "hates" astro boy.
Chances are, they don't know who Ozamu Tezuka is, much less who Takahshi is... and they see the proliferation of tshirts, coffee mugs, key chains, and plush dolls etc. as just another Japanese capitalist youth culture phenomenon... like Pokemon.
Yeah, we like Inuyasha. That's why we took the time to join the tribe and read the posts. If someone else want to waste their time endorsing a negtive statement of Hatred towards something they don't understand or don't care for... oh well, that's their own negativity. Don't let it get to you. -

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Mon, September 5, 2005 - 10:29 PMLOL! Well spoken.
But I never said I let it bother me, just that I was honestly trying to understand the rationale behind it, and hoping to hear if anyone else had reflections on the matter.
(By and large, I rarely place a lot of stock in people who waste time "hating things"... ;) -

Mon, September 5, 2005 - 10:32 PMLOL... Okay, after re-reading my posts, I guess I was sounding a bit "inflamed". LOL! (I forget not everyone is used to my style of "empassioned prose" yet. :)
But I still stand by my last statement... ;) -

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Tue, October 4, 2005 - 2:14 PMwow you guys are hilarious!
anywho, personally i LOOOOOVE Inuyasha, and am totally insulted when someone says they hate it. And can't stand it when someone likens it to pokemon either...
but i do understand they have a right to their opinion.
but as someone said before, if you have an opinion, have the info to back it up!!!! -

Re: Anti-Inuyasha Sentiment
Thu, May 25, 2006 - 9:18 PMLet me make myself clear, I love Inuyasha. :) The characters are awesome, the balance between humour and the deepness of plot are great. But there are a few things I could see turning some people off the series...
The *animation* style (NOT the plot, but the actual drawings) seems to me *IMO* to be a bit *older* style-- meaning less dramatic color and depth than for instance Last Exile or Full Metal Alchemist. It's a love story, at its very heart, which some people just don't like. And, it's kid-friendly. Some adult themes, but no realistic gore or sex. (Which is probably why someone compared it to Pokemon. Stupid! Just because something's not full of gore and sex doesn't mean it doesn't have artistic value!) And, of course, it goes on for....ev....er!!!!!! I have to be honest and admit it tries the patience to watch 167 episodes and never get some questions answered... So, I can understand why maybe it wouldn't be someone's thing. But to go around bashing it is just a stupid want-to-be-a-cool-Inuyasha-basher thing. Whatever.
I'll keep wearing my dog ears and let idiots be idiots. :)
